Solution

Just updated to iOS 6 but getting the iTunes error “There is no SIM card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate”? Here’s how to fix it.

This is a rather weird issue because you already have your SIM card inserted but iTunes is saying otherwise. What’s even more weird is that you have an iPhone 3GS which is already factory unlocked but won’t activate normally (or if you have an AT&T iPhone, and need to unlock it, click here).

If you have baseband 6.15.00 installed before, for whatever reason iTunes won’t let you activate your iPhone on iOS 6. Apple may have quietly put a this restriction in place. In case you missed the news, you can now downgrade from iPad baseband 6.15.00 to 5.13.04.

Try the following fix:

1. Download redsn0w 0.9.14b2 that can downgrade iPad baseband to 5.13.04 for Windows or Mac. Download original firmware iOS 5.1.1 for iPhone 3GS from here.

2. Launch redsn0w. Go to Extras > Select IPSW button in redsn0w to point to the original firmware you just downloaded.

3. Do a controlled shutdown of your iPhone (“slide to power off”).

4. Return to the first screen and click ‘Jailbreak’. Check the ‘Downgrade from iPad baseband’ checkbox, uncheck Cydia and click Next.

5. Redsn0w will start doing the downgrade and you will see ‘Flashing Baseband’ screen on your iPhone with the Pawnapple icon. DO NOT INTERRUPT your iPhone while baseband flashing is in progress.

6. When done, your iPhone will reboot itself and the baseband should have been downgraded to 5.13.04. Try to connect to iTunes once more and see if it would activate.

Planning the Installation

As with any OS installation, we must first plan the installation process. When you run the Windows 7 Setup program, you must provide information about how to install and configure the operating system. Thorough planning can make your installation of Windows 7 more efficient by helping you to avoid potential problems during installation. An understanding of the configuration options will also help to ensure that you have properly configured your system.

Here are some of the most important things you should take into consideration when planning for your Windows 7 installation:

• Check System Requirements
• Check Hardware and Software Compatibility
• Determine Disk Partitioning Options
• Complete a Pre-Installation Checklist

Microsoft states the  minimum recommended specs for Windows 7:

• 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor
• 1 GB of system memory
• 16 GB of available disk space
• Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128 MB memory (to enable the Aero theme)
• DVD-R/W Drive
• Internet access (to activate and get updates)

32-bit or 64-bit Version?

You need to decide whether to install the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 7. The Windows 7 installation disc package includes both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7. Basically, the 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of random access memory (RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit system. So if you plan on using Windows 7 on a computer with more than 3 GB or RAM, I would strongly suggest to use the 64-bit version. Most programs designed for the 32-bit version of Windows will work on the 64-bit version of Windows, and if they don't, you can always use Windows XP Mode (read my "How to Install Windows XP Mode on Windows 7" article).

Note: Either way, you cannot use an existing 32-bit version of a previous OS to perform an in-place upgrade to a 64-bit version of Windows 7, and you'll need to format and install a fresh copy. Also, you cannot use an existing 64-bit version of a previous OS to perform an in-place upgrade to a 32-bit version of Windows 7.

Type of Installation

Basically, there are 2 approaches to installing Windows 7:

1. Upgrade (In-place upgrade) - This option replaces your current version of Windows with Windows 7, and keeps your files, settings, and programs in place on your computer.
2. Custom ("fresh" installation) - This option replaces your current version of Windows with Windows 7, but doesn't preserve your files, settings, and programs. It's sometimes referred to as a clean installation for that reason.

As always, a fresh installation is much better and I strongly recommend taking that track. Even if you've got an existing Windows XP/Vista OS on your computer, I would strongly recommend that you format it and install a fresh copy of the OS.

This article will focus on a fresh installation of Windows 7. Please read my "How to Upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7"  and "Upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7" articles for more information on those paths.

Beginning the Installation Process

When installing on a physical computer insert your Windows 7 DVD media into your DVD drive and reboot your computer. If you're asked to press a key to boot from DVD or CD, press any key. A black window will appear momentarily while the DVD content is read.

Note: These screenshots are taken from a Windows 7 Ultimate installation performed on a virtual machine running on VMware Workstation. I will be using an .ISO file mounted on the VMs CD/DVD drive.

Next, a Starting Windows screen will appear.

Note: If the Windows installation page doesn't appear and you're not asked to press a key to start from DVD or CD, you might have to specify that your computer uses its DVD or CD drive as the startup device.

The Installation Process

Like in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, and unlike previous versions of Windows, Windows 7 does not have a noticeable text phase of the setup process, and it will boot directly into the Graphical User Interface (GUI) mode.

After a few moments you will see the first prompt:

Click "Next" unless you want to change some regional settings for the installation process. Hebrew users should read my "Installing Hebrew on Windows 7" article.

Click on the "Install now" button.

Note: If you're using the installation media to repair an existing installation of Windows 7 you should also read my latest article on the  Windows Recovery Environment.

Next, accept the license terms and click on "Next".

Next, unless you're upgrading an existing Windows installation, press the Custom (Advanced) installation type button. Note that in this case, the Upgrade button is disabled because this specific installation if performed on a new computer without any previous operating system on it.

The next phase is to pick the installation partition. Since this computer has a new hard disk that hasn't been formatted before, you will only have the option to create a new partition on it.

If you don't want to specify a specific partition to install Windows on, or create partitions on your hard disk, click Next to begin the installation. If you already have another existing partition with enough free space and want to install the Windows 7 on that partition to create a multiboot configuration, select the partition you want to use, and then click Next to begin the installation. If you want to create, extend, delete, or format a partition, click Drive options (advanced), click the option you want, and then follow the instructions.

Since I don't need to perform any additional task I will just click on the "Next" button. The installation process will then create a partition on all the available disk space, and format it.

The setup process will now begin to copy files from the installation DVD media to the hard disk.

Process could take a while depending on the type of hardware your computer uses. In my VM test sample I've used for this demo, the entire process finished before I could finish writing the previous 3 paragraphs, so it could be pretty quick.

The computer will reboot, and the next thing you'll see is the prompt to set the user's and computer's name. By default, the computer's name will be username-PC, where username is the username you've entered.

Note: The user you're creating will be the only user currently available on the system. Like Vista, the built-in Administrator's account is disabled. Read my article on how to enable the Windows 7 Administrator's account article for more information.

Click on "Next".

Enter the user's password. Remember this password, as it will be the ONLY user on the system, and unless you create an additional user or enable the built-in administrator account, if you forget this password you'll need to crack it to gain access to the system. The best option would be to choose a complex password made of at least 7 characters or more (something like Pssw0rd or MYpa$$w0rd). You must also enter a password hint.

Click on "Next".

Next, type in your product key. If you do not have the product key at hand you can still click "Next", and proceed with the installation. You will be asked to enter the product key after Windows is installed.

Choose what sort of protection your computer gets. The recommended settings are best for someone that doesn't plan to hide their computer behind a corporate firewall (and even then, in some cases, this would be the best option). If you plan to install a 3rd-party firewall later you can opt to be prompted later. Note that this setting will also have effect on how the computer uses the Microsoft Windows Update (Automatic Updates) feat

Choose your time zone and location and click on "Next".

Select your network location type. This setting can be changed later, but do note that choosing a profile will have effect on the Windows Firewall and sharing settings. Click on "Next".

Windows will finalize the settings and your desktop will appear.

This concludes the Windows 7 installation. Next, you would probably want to update your computer with the latest hotfixes and/or patches from Microsoft.

Procedure......

A lot of computers allow you to pick a temporary start-up device. Usually your computer goes to the hard drive to start up, loading the operating system.

However in this case, since you want to boot from the CD to install a clean copy of Windows 7, you will need to boot to the CD drive instead.

Your BIOS must have the HDD ahead of the CD-ROM. You can try one of the methods below:

1. When your computer boots up, tap the F12 key a few times. If your BIOS supports it, it should bring up a menu to select a boot device. Using your arrow keys, highlight the CD-ROM or DVD drive entry and press enter. This will take you on your way to the Windows installation screen!

Otherwise...

1. Depending on your BIOS, you may need to press F1, F2, DEL, ESC, F10, F11, or F12 to get to the BIOS setting screen.
2. From here you will need to find a menu that resembles Boot Order or Boot Options or Boot Devices or something of that nature
3. When you enter the Boot Order menu, move the CD-ROM device to the top of the order list. This will cause your BIOS to attempt to boot from the CD before the HDD if possible
4. Save & Quit, your machine will reboot with the new settings.

Hopefully this gets you going. If you provide the BIOS Make and Version number, or the type of computer you have (think brand here) I can make the instructions a bit more detailed.

GTA Lyari Express Way Game is a sandbox style action adventure video game developed by Muhammad Niaz and released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, PC Windows video game consoles in Europe, North America and Oceania, on 22 December 2012, and in Pakistan. Like other games in the series, GTA V is composed of elements from driving games and third-person shooters, and features "open world" gameplay that gives players more control over their playing experience. It is the first console game in the series to feature an online multiplayer mode.

NTI CD and DVD Maker (NewTech Infosystems, Inc.) have released their new CD & DVD-Maker™ 7 Titanium Suite which includes nine programs (CD & DVD-Maker Platinum™, Home Video-Maker™, Backup NOW!®, DVD Playback software, DVD Fit™, FileCD™, Jewelcase Maker™, Wave Editor™ and Music Cafe™). NTI has been around since 1993 and continues to offer a variety of powerful CD/DVD recording, authoring and backup applications. The new suite of products simplify video capture, editing, still picture compilation and burning of CD and DVD media. Tools for backing up files as well as backing up unprotected discs are provided. Full support for dual layer DVD burners is also included. The main user interface provides access to all of the applications from a single screen. By simply moving the cursor over the area of interest, several options available to the user will be displayed. The categories are Audio, Data, Video, Photo, Backup or Copy. This could very well be one of the best deals available for multimedia users.

The CD & DVD-Maker™ 7 Titanium Suite software comes on a single CD and automatically launches the main install menu when inserted into a computer. We first installed the software on our Sony VAIO Laptop (PCV-K23) to check out some of the features. The installation menu allows users to install CD & DVD-Maker™ 7, Home Video-Maker and NTI's DVD Playback software separately. Since our laptop lacked a DVD burner, we also tested the software on our Sony Vaio (PCV-RZ22G) desktop machine, which gave us more resources. In both cases, the installation was simple and went without a hitch. The software comes on a single install CD. Each of the three items listed in the install menu must be installed separately or they will not be enabled in the main menu. The package also includes a QuickStart Guide that briefly explains how to use each of the various applications included with this suite of programs.

The Audio programs are used to create WAV, MP3 or WMA music CDs. The MP3 application has a capacity indicator at the lower area of the window that lets the user know how much space is used on the disc as it fills up with files. This helps the user know the exact space required when making a CD. Users can also record Live Audio directly to disc. CD Extra discs can be created using the simple interface. An NTI Wave Editor and Audio Player are included in the package.

The Data programs provide users with the ability to create CD or DVD data discs. This is particularly useful for backing up large amounts of important data onto disc. We liked the ability to store large amounts of data onto DVD (4.7 GB on single layer and 8.5 GB on dual layer discs). Mixed Mode CDs can also be created in this area. When using the Mixed Mode CD format, the first session can contain up to 98 audio tracks and second session contains the data track. These discs offer excellent compatibility with both audio-only players as well as CDROM drives in computers.

The Video programs are used to create Video CDs and Super VCDs. NTI's Cinematic Video offers users a simple way to spice up video by having the software create transitions and effects on the original content. HomeVideo-Maker is a powerful application designed to capture, edit and create video discs with support for menus and sub menus. The best part about this program is NTI makes it easy to preview the disc to see how the menu system will work before burning the disc. The HomeVideo-Maker software has some excellent features that are quite intuitive. Also included is the DVD Fit application, which is designed to automatically compress video to fit on a single DVD in cases where the source files are much larger than the target disc capacity. NTI also threw in their DVD player.

The Photo programs include Photo Disc, Slideshow VCD, Slideshow SVCD, and Cinematic Slideshow™. Photo Discs simply include a series of JPEG files and are compatible with newer DVD players and all computers with CDROM drives. The VCD and SVCD Slideshow programs are designed to create video from a series of still images. Background audio can also be added to the video for a custom presentation. The Cinematic Slideshow allows user to takes a series of photos and create a wonderful presentation. Once the disc is burned, the user can select the JewelCase Maker application for either standard (12 cm) discs or Mini (8 cm) discs.

The Backup programs includes Files & Folders and Disc Image. Selecting launches NTI's Backup NOW! 4 application, a comprehensive backup/restore program that allows users to easily select files for archiving. The software automatically spans the data to multiple discs if required. The program can compare archived files to identify differences and can even backup and restore to a remote server.

The Copy program is capable of duplicating CD or DVD (non-copy protected) media to or from a disc or image. This is a great utility for making multiple copies of a disc. We used it to duplicate the kids DVD videos for family.

Performance 

We sampled most of the programs included with the CD & DVD-Maker™ 7 Titanium Suite (there are many) including the backup tools for CD and DVD. Much of our focus was on the HomeVideo-Maker application that allows users to quickly create a DVD complete with menus. The quick preview capability was excellent and saves users time when making their own custom movies. We connected our JVC MiniDV camcorder to our PC using a IEEE-1394 cable and the software immediately recognized the device. Transferring our home video to the hard drive for editing was a breeze and the HomeVideo-Maker software worked well. We were able to quickly create a DVD of our favorite moments.

Another great set of applications is the Slideshow VCD and Slideshow SVCD that allows users to take a series of still pictures and create an impressive video presentation with background music targeting VCD or SVCD. The King of Fighters officially abbreviated KOF, is a series of fighting games by SNK Playmore (formerly SNK). The series was originally developed for SNK's Neo Geo MVS arcade hardware, which served as the main platform for the series until 2004, when SNK retired the MVS in favor of the Atomiswave arcade board. Only two King of Fighters games were made on the Atomiswave platform (The King of Fighters Neowave and The King of Fighters XI) before SNK decided to discontinue using the platform for the series. The current arcade hardware for the series is the Taito Type X2, with its first usage coming with the release of The King of Fighters XII. Ports of the arcade games and original The King of Fighters games have been released for several video games consoles.

The first game in the series, The King of Fighters '94, was released by SNK on August 25, 1994. The game featured characters from SNK's previous fighting game series Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting, as well as original characters (including characters from older games such as Ikari Warriors and Psycho Soldier, adapted for a versus fighting game). The success of the game led SNK to release yearly installments of the series and numbered the games for the year they were released. The King of Fighters '95 was released on July 25, 1995, with several ports being released the next year. In addition to adding new characters, this game also began the first story arc of the series titled "The Orochi Saga". KOF '95 was also the first game in the series that allowed the players to create their own team of three members, out of any character in the game. The King of Fighters '96, released on July 30, 1996, establishes the second part of "The Orochi Saga" and replaced the character sprites from the previous two years with newly drawn ones, improving the gameplay of the series as well. Depending on the playable characters in a team, an exclusive ending will be played. The King of Fighters '97, released on July 28, 1997, concluded "The Orochi Saga" story arc. The King of Fighters '98 was released on July 23, 1998, and unlike the previous games of the series, it did not feature a story. Instead, the game was promoted as a "Dream Match" game that allowed players to choose most of the characters available from the previous titles, including ones that were supposedly dead. SNK refitted the Dreamcast version and renamed it The King of Fighters: Dream Match 1999 with an extended cel animated introduction and 3D backgrounds.

On July 22, 1999, The King of Fighters '99 was released, which introduced a new story arc known as "The NESTS Chronicles". The game introduces several new characters into the series, as well as the rule of a fourth member being added to each team and that a new tactic is introduced in this game as well. The tactic would be that a specific person from a team would be an assistant called a "Striker" and that this person would be able to aid the team for a few seconds in combat. The Dreamcast version was titled The King of Fighters: Evolution, with several improvements in the game such as new strikers and better animation. The King of Fighters 2000 was released on July 26, 2000, and is the second part of "The NESTS Chronicles". It adds a few new playable characters and a couple of Strikers (most of them being from previous KOF titles and other SNK titles as well such as Metal Slug and Kizuna Encounter). The King of Fighters 2001 was released on November 15, 2001, and ends the second story arc. Due to economic problems that SNK had at the time, the Korean company Eolith helped in the development of the game. The King of Fighters 2002, released on October 10, 2002, was created to reunite old characters from previous KOF games and featured no story, similar to KOF '98. It was also developed by Eolith.

A new KOF story arc called the "Tales of Ash" starts in The King of Fighters 2003, released on December 12, 2003. It allowed the players to change characters while playing, but the number of team members was reduced back to three. SNK, now SNK-Playmore, returned to the franchise development in this entry. By 2004, SNK abandoned yearly releases of the series and numbered future games in a more traditional manner; the first main series game released as such was The King of Fighters XI, released on October 26, 2005. The King of Fighters XII was released in July 2009. KOF XII uses newly-drawn 2D sprites on detailed 2D backgrounds. Producers informed that the game is one hundred percent hand drawn. It is to be a storyless gathering of fighters, similar to KOFs '98 and 2002 before it. The latest story arc ends with The King of Fighters XIII, which features the entire roster from The King of Fighters XII as well as additional characters and was released during the summer of 2010.
